Surma Endurance

This is one of a series of works on the people of Surma which is inspired by their way of life, how they paint and decorate their bodies, their life as herdsmen, and their indomitable and fierce spirit. This inspires the artist, whose grandfather was among the warriors who lost their lives at the Battle of Maychew (Italo-Abysinnian war, 1936).
